Popular sectors with young women looking for careers

 11 Aug 2017

A poll of Adzuna candidates has revealed the most sought-after jobs among women in the UK

Public sector
28 percent of women sought careers in the public sector including becoming doctors, nurses, teachers, police officers and fire fighters.
In our opinion, lumping such diverse roles under one career - public sector – skews the results.  Good to know that public sector roles are still much sought after and incidentally the poll also revealed that 24 percent of male respondents selected the public sector as preferred career.

Digital/ IT
The digital and IT sector has made big gains with 16 percent of women polled electing a career in this sector as their preferred choice.

Voluntary sector
The voluntary sector attracted the 3rd highest number of applicants and again it is a sector with a particularly diverse range of careers and skill sets.  The UK Charity sector is a vibrant and dynamic sector and in changing times it offers excellent career prospects.
Media
The media sector ranked in 4th place for young women.  Interestingly, the media sector includes many creative roles which are also amongst the most future proof roles.
