Strategic Buyer

This role will lead the strategic and technical purchasing of new or existing parts for the commodity (Casting/Forging and Machined Parts).

  • Essential - educated to ‘A’ level standard or a relevant NVQ in engineering, science or business discipline.
  • Preferred - MCIPS certified and/or technical engineering degree.

Professional experience, qualification, and skills:

  • Essential - experience as a Buyer in an engineering or manufacturing based company.
  • Preferred - experience working in a safety critical and quality environment.

Additional skills and requirements:

  • Experience of SAP or similar.
  • MS Office experience including Excel at an intermediate level.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Flexibility to travel.

 Main Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Purchasing of new and existing parts for the commodity.
  • Definition of all purchasing parameters until the serial release of a product.
  • The release of first article purchase orders at approved suppliers.
  • Negotiation of frame and delivery contracts, price negotiation of specific products and suppliers (if necessary together with the Group Commodity Management).
  • Knowledge of understanding of contract related legal and commercial subjects.
  • Responsible for ensuring all commercial documents are in situ to all purchase orders to be placed against a supplier.
  • KPI responsibility for a certain supplier and product portfolio (savings gross/net, supplier delivery reliability, supplier delivery quality, purchased parts turn rate, number of suppliers).
  • Supplier management (introduction, supplier development, supplier exit).
  • Engineering and technical know-how for specific products and suppliers (cost structure, technology - product and manufacturing - quality management).
  • Implementation and continuous improvement of modern logistic interfaces between supplier and KB Production (target: simplification of order processing in line with 100% material availability).
  • Participation in make-or-buy projects (potentially as project leader).
  • The functional lead of material planners and substitute for material planners during periods of absence.
  • Work with MRP Planner to resolve all Brake Enquiry (BE) database requirements for quotation and information.
  • Member of cross-functional teams with R&D, Quality, and Testing.
