IT System Administrator

Salary: £35,000 to £40,000/ annum

12 month Fixed Term Contract

Hours: Full-time,  Mon to Thurs 07:45 to 16:30, Fri 07:45 to 14:30

Location: Swindon

Purpose of the Role:

Working as part of the IT function, the System Administrator will support and provide troubleshooting assistance for the Company’s information and communication technology needs.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To support the Windows server infrastructure including the administration of all main server supplied services;
  • To assist the IT Manager in identifying new technology and its benefits;
  • To support & maintain MS Exchange servers used by the Company;
  • To provide support for all the company’s IT infrastructure;
  • To use expertise to deliver timely and effective problem resolution in the event of IT issues arising both in and out of core working hours if required;
  • To support and resolve issues experienced by end users within the Company service level agreements, ensuring maximum security and the correct use of equipment is always adhered to;
  • To support and maintain IT hardware including PC’s, Servers, Network Devices.
  • To manage and ensure Company back-ups are run and completed.
  • To assist the IT Manager with technology strategies, road maps and maintain documentation relevant to IT;
  • To conduct general networking activities, Cabling, switch and router configurations and assist the IT manager as and when required with new network infrastructure installations;
  • To create and maintain business specified group policies in Active Directory;
  • To manage and maintain up to date user accounts and permissions;
  • To understand and operate within Health & Safety regulations when installing IT equipment;
  • To maintain active Communications and Links from third party suppliers;
  • To maintain effective working relationships with line management and Associates;
  • To provide input into strategic plans on IT and business development;
  • To compile both weekly and ad-hoc business-critical reports when required;
  • To monitor all systems proactively
  • Ability to support multiple sites across various locations
  • Exposure to virtualized environments
  • To support and mentor junior members of the IT function with day to day troubleshooting and guidance when required
  • Perform routine maintenance of infrastructure devices

The role involves working on a call out basis in line with business needs and company policy. 


  • Full UK Driving License
  • Previous experience of working in an IT focused role at a systems administrator level.
  • Excellent knowledge & understanding of Windows server, Window desktop operating systems, Exchange with a proven track record of trouble shooting.
  • Solid understanding & practical experience of setting up & maintaining windows server in a domain environment
  • Understanding of networks and network security principles and the ability to troubleshoot devices.
  • Experience of working with IT hardware on all levels.
  • Sound knowledge of cyber security and products around this
  • Experience of working with virtual servers.
  • Demonstrable experience & enthusiasm in problem solving.
  • Experience of working in a customer facing environment.
  • Previously worked as a system administrator for a period of 4 or more years
