Design Technician

Salary: up to £27,000/annum

Location: Bristol

Full time (early finish on Fridays)

Our client is one big family. They have been building leisure vehicles here in Bristol for over 60 years and are now very much part of the local community.

They are now looking to expand our Design team with a Design Technician. The successful candidate will be working within the Product Development department as part of our Advance Design team to create conceptual and practical designs for future New Product Development (NPD) projects. This role would ideally suit a design or engineering graduate with an aptitude for interior or industrial/product design. A minimum of one years’ experience in an automotive industry would be preferred but not essential.

What you will be doing:  

  • Identifying future trends within the industry
  • Translating design ideas into caravan and motorhome layouts
  • Designing interior and exterior elements that fulfil the design brief
  • Working with the Prototype team to create mock ups and prototypes, ensuring design ideas are feasible
  • Working with the engineering team to develop concepts into production
  • Liaising with suppliers and communicating effectively with other functions outside the development team
  • Understanding the project plan and prioritising work to achieve deadlines
  • Working within the project guidelines and metrics
  • Actively participating in design reviews
  • Presenting new products to both internal and external clients
  • Attending industry shows and creating competitor analysis
  • Supporting department administration
  • Working within the guidelines of Departmental and Company: Policies, Procedures and Work Instructions

What we are looking for:

  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to communicate visual design ideas through the use of sketching and/or CAD
  • Understanding of materials and manufacturing processes
  • Analytical problem solver

  • Manages time and tasks efficiently
  • Adobe Creative Cloud - Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign  
  • Knowledge of 2D & 3D CAD, including rendering (preferably Solidworks)
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office
