C&D are working in partnership with a Bristol based manufacturing company to recruit for a Category Buyer. In this role, you will be responsible for allocated suppliers, providing support on accounts whilst actively managing the top 20 suppliers within this portfolio. Areas to support include pricing (reductions / increases), stock holding, capacity planning, risk mitigation and quality issues. 

The role will require you to develop a strategy ensuring areas of risk are identified, addressed and where possible, mitigated. Short / medium and long term plans addressing cost and lead-time reductions to be created and managed. You will be required to manage projects fully by means of carrying out the necessary analysis, market research, issuing RFQ's etc. There will also be some travel to suppliers within the UK and overseas as and when required. 

Duties will include;

  • Liaise with the procurement team regularly to set up agreed replenishment methods eg. consignment stock, buffer stock and lead-time agreements.
  • Hold regular face-to-face supplier meetings and internal stakeholders including Engineering / Operations, quality and design.
  • Visit / assess and set up new suppliers where required and creating exit plans for poor performing accounts.
  • Negotiate and discuss terms with suppliers.

The role requires a strategic and proactive approach to activities and outsourcing opportunities to reduce inefficiency and drive out unnecessary costs and long lead times from the supply chain.

Skills / Experience Required;

  • A good level of experience within a manufacturing environment requiring an essential need for a responsive supply base.
  • Extensive experience in a purchasing and supply chain function within JIT manufacturing environment. 
  • Previous experience in outsourcing and VE/VA projects essential.
  • Computer literate to include advanced Excel skills
  • Manage / support implementation of Engineering change requests on critical or difficult parts.
  • Project Lead outsourcing and new product projects.

This is a permanent and full-time position. Standard hours of work are Monday to Thursday 7.30am-4.30pm and Friday 7.30am-12.30pm.
