WHSmith 225th Anniversary Celebrations in Aid of Stand Up To Cancer | C&D Recruitment

 9 Nov 2017

This year WHSmith are supporting Stand Up To Cancer and Cancer Research UK as part of their 225th anniversary celebrations. Throughout the year colleagues from the whole WHSmith’s huge network of Travel and High Street stores will be rebelling against cancer by fundraising.

As part of their fundraising efforts, WHSmith held a charity ball for suppliers and business partners of WHSmith, the proceeds of which will go towards supporting Stand Up To Cancer and Cancer Research UK projects and help speed up research.

As long-time preferred suppliers, Karen was invited to attend the charity ball and become a VIP supporter of these worthy charity organisations and aid in the raising of funds for both.

See photos of the event below...

We want to say thank you WHSmith for giving us the opportunity to support you in your 225th Anniversary Celebration and a huge thank you for everything that Stand Up To Cancer and Cancer Research UK is doing to beat cancer.

Recruiter - Neil Thakrar said this about the event:

"What an experience!  Champagne on arrival, photographers everywhere, bowties and sparkly dresses! I felt like a celeb!

I love these type of events so I was majorly excited! We were not aware of the agenda of the evening which made it even more teasing.

Everybody looked amazing and so glam (especially our CEO Karen). We were seated at table number 2, right next to the stage and discovered that there were also celebs seated with us at the VIP tables. We were seated with a family from Gogglebox!

The host for the evening was Alan Carr!! He kept us all very entertained, to say the least. Speeches from the Chief Exec of WHSmith, as well as the Chiefs from the Charities of which the ball was in aid of. The most delicious 3-course meal, no food was left on any plate and Kath negotiated her way in for a second main dish for one of our WHSmith guests! Then the best bit for me, Dynamo!!! Seeing it all on the tele is amazing enough, but in person, it just stuns you even further. He chose 6 people from the audience to guess a number from 1-60 and then, of course, had a lottery ticket that he had bought 2 days before that matched every number that was guessed!! A live auction of a number of fantastic packages including football tickets, books, holidays and much more. All in aid of charity and it was a very competitive auction indeed! (I personally, unfortunately, could not bid for anything, but Karen secured Afternoon Tea with Richard and Judy!!!) During the night, there was also a ‘Silent Auction’ where every table had an iPad on where you could bid lots of things throughout the night including signed Anthony Joshua Gloves, Cruises/Holidays, Spa Breaks and lots, lots more! To end, entertainment from the one and only Olly Murs, which the ladies enjoyed a lot and Kaiser Chiefs which our Benjamin enjoyed the most out of the 9000+ guests!!

If I could do it all over again, I jolly well would!!"
